The X-15 program was a rocket propelled aircraft launched from under the wing of a bomber. It allowed pilots to experience high excelleration and weightlessness as it flew at the edge of space. Its pilots included Neil Armstrong (Gemini8 and Apollo 11) and Joe Engle (Shuttle STS-2 and STS-51I).
This medal was issued to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first flight of the X-15 rocket plane.

Here we have a "Project Mercury Manned Space Flight" Alan B Shepard Mercury 3 medal from the "coin of the month club". It was supplied in a pouch saying Sterling silver, but this example looks to me to be cupra-nickel.

|
Here is a second "Project Mercury Manned Space Flight" coin of the month club. This one also appears to be cupra-nickel, and is issued to commemorate John Glenn Mercury 6 flight.

Larger than the two medals above, this attractive Project Mercury Friendship-7 medal features the Gemini 7 logo on the back.

From the same series as the Friendship-7 medal above, this is the Project Mercury Sigma-7 medal.

This is a retrospective Charleston Mint medal commemorating John Glenn's Mercury 6 flight. It is marked "John F Kennedy Space Center"/"NASA" and is serialised "5034" which is the same as an Apollo 17 and Shuttle STS-1 medal on other pages. The Apollo 11 medal from the same series includes a COA.
